Dr. Spellman is associate professor of psychology at the University of Virginia. She is also the current Secretary of the American Psychological Society and is a member of the governing board for the Psychonomic Society. She is currently associate editor of the journal Psychological Science.

Spellman's research crosses the domains of cognitive and social psychology, focusing on higher-level thought and memory processes.
